Musicians Aileen Campbell, Alasdair Roberts and Drew Wright have been exploring the collections held by The School of Scottish Studies Archives at The University of Edinburgh as a basis for creating new work which they will perform at a number of venues throughout Scotland during October 2011. The School of Scottish Studies Archives contain recordings of traditional Scottish songs, music, and tales, and a photographic archive collection.
The Crafts Study Centre’s latest exhibition Memoranda includes work created by artists Maisie Broadhead, Steve Dixon, Laura Potter and Elaine Wilson in response to the Centre’s archive holdings. The Centre is part of the University for the Creative Arts located in Surrey. Its holdings include examples of design work (ceramics, textiles, furniture), as well as photographic and paper archive materials. Memoranda runs until 1 October 2011, images and further information are available on their website.
Hello and welcome to The Glasgow School of Art’s new Archives and Collections Blog where you can find out about the A&C’s activities and holdings. We also plan to post information about other archives and museums which relate to art, design and architecture. Our blog begins just as a new academic year starts at GSA, so good luck to all our new and returning students for 2011-12.
If you would like to find out more about life at GSA over its 166 year history, the Archives and Collections are full of photographs, newscuttings, School publications, and examples of student work which are available for consultation. Our holdings are also open to external visitors! Please contact us if you’d like to make an appointment.
